Flora

There are several vegetal grades in the High Tatras.
The mountain grade (montan) 800 - 1550 m - fir obtains here. From
flowers saffrons, may-flowers, gold–head lilies.
The subalpine grade 1550 - 1800 m - it is actually a grade of dwarf
pine. We can find here: limba-firs, birches, muntain ashes and willows.
The alpine grade 1800 – 2300 m - alpine meadows with plenty kinds
of highly mountain flowers and grasses came into existence here.
Lichens also grow here
The subnival grade (a grade under the line of eternal snow) 2300
m and more – the desultory coppices of lichens or vascular plants
among stone spurs, in gadroons and in stone walls occur here .Even
under the Gerlach Peak we can also find 20 kinds of vascular plants.
The plesnivec alpinsky, poniklec biely, poniklec slovensky, horec
bodkovany, horec Cluisov, zvonček alpínsky belong
to typical representatives of Tatra flora. The nicest places for
knowing flora in the High Tatras are: Veľka Studena Valley,
Velicka Valley in its part called Kvetnica. The northern valley
like Bielovodska, Javorova and its spring Zadne Medodoly also has
their characteristic flora.
