Hiking in High Tatras

Majority visitors come to the High Tatras for the reason of tourism. The relatively quality net of tourist paths with its lenght (with the Belan Tatras too) 297,5 ,m is built in the High Tatras´ region. The good-visible square marks (10x10 cm) with two borer white stripes, between which a red coloured, blue, green or yellow stripe is, are in the ground. If the marks are above the zone of fir-wood under snow, a route is considered as a not marked! A part of paths leads at the foot of territory, another are situated at middle position and the most ardouos take us onto the most endangerous parts of mountain or ridges and summits. The „Tatra magistrala“ 46 km long red – marked, is an axis of tourist routes. It leads at the southern foot of the Tatras from Podbanske (940 m) to White Mountain Lake ( 1612 m). It culminates onto the saddle „sedlo pod Ostrvou“ (1959 m) and „sedlo pod Svištovkou“ (2023 m) or „Big Svištovka“ peak (2037 m). A part of Tatra magistrala is also a section Štrbské Mountain Lake – Popradské Mountain Lake. 14 new informative panels guide us on this section since 22. 9. 2001. They have aim to inform us about importance of forests and life in it. The learning path is 3925 m long, and because is quite frequent (1934 walkers/day) should contribute to inform people about forest ecosystem and as well as security of our forests. From 1. 11. to 15. 6. upper parts of paths above the upper line of forests are closed for public except only the valleys in which some chalets are open all yearly and to which an access is possible in the winter but only in good snow and meteorological condition. We should inform about snow and meteorological condition before toru in TANAP.
